This is a full-time post in the Specialist Personality Disorder Service in Devon Partnership NHS Trust. The service has been commissioned to return patients from out of area placements (Repatriations) and prevent placement of patients (Diversions) who have severe and complex Personality Disorder, permitting a reinvestment of resources in a whole pathway of care from Tiers 1-3e.
The post holder will work alongside 1x Consultant Medical Psychotherapist, in a Therapeutic Community Day Treatment Programme at the Iris Centre in Exeter and the five outpatient Combined Therapy Programmes across Devon, both of which offer psychodynamic therapy (individual and group) as well as psychosocial activities for patients.
The role includes offering supervision to the team, assessments for new patients based on psychodynamic and psychiatric principles and the opportunity to join in direct psychotherapeutic work including running psychotherapy groups.
The post holder will join the outreach team in offering formulations and consultation to other teams in the Trust holding complex PD patients and in working alongside the “team around the patient” while engaging hard to reach patients who may be able to engage in therapeutic work.
The service has a major training role to mental health teams and other agencies across the Trust including Primary Care to develop skills in work with people with Personality Disorder as well as training in Psychological Therapies.
There is a highly regarded psychotherapy training programme for core trainees which includes four other adult psychotherapists who have dedicated time for teaching and supervision of core trainees. There are therefore many opportunities for the post holder to join in established and well run teaching programmes.

Iris Centre, Exeter.
The post holder will provide consultant cover for the Iris Centre, the Combined Therapy Programmes, and other outpatient therapeutic programmes, including family therapy, Cognitive Analytic Therapy, and Mentalisation Based Therapy.
In the Combined Therapy Programme and the Iris Centre this work will be undertaken alongside a senior adult psychotherapist who will share the responsibilities for the clinical and day to day management of the service.
The post holder will have regular supervision and also be line managed by the Associate Clinical Director of the Specialist Services Directorate.
1 x Consultant will share consultant cover to the psychotherapy day programme and will share some the outpatient programmes maximising continuity of care.
