Devon is a stunning county with 2 great coastlines, two National Parks and five official Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty. There are lot of places to visit and things to do.
Devon is noted for its beautiful landscape, quality local food, culture and scenic beaches. North Devon is known for its rolling hill, lush valleys and miles of patchwork farmland. In the heart of North Devon are the Ruby County which boasts one of the busiest and largest livestock and pannier markets in the Country and the Tarka County little changed since Henry Williamson wrote his famous novel, “Tarka the Otter”.
It also has award winning beaches such as the Woolacombe beach with its miles of golden sand which are recognised as one of the top ten beaches in the world. Mid Devon has picture postcard Devon lanes and is known for its rolling hills and beautiful countryside, with the Blackdown Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty waiting to be explored.
You have a choice of 2 National Parks - Dartmoor and Exmoor bordering Mid Devon. Also there are 11 rivers of which the Culm, Creedy, Exe and Yeo are the most significant. The Grand Western Canal Country Park and local nature reserve stretches 11 miles through Mid Devon and has an array of wildlife, with the basin situated in Tiverton. Mid Devon is home to one of the last four horse drawn barge operators in the country.
We can provide good academic opportunities working alongside Exeter University, the Medical School and our research directorate as part of your SPA time.
