We are searching for an established consultant psychiatrist to lead the delivery of inpatient mental health services at The Haytor, our purpose built 16-bed ward caring for adults aged 16-65 in Torbay.

Caring for those with acute mental health problems you will use your skills, experience and insights to help us continue to deliver high-quality, person-centred care for those who need it. You will direct the work of others, offering professional supervision to junior medical staff, and advice to senior colleagues and managers.

You will provide expert medical psychiatric assessments, treatment and care within the Care Programme Approach. We expect you to lead a multi-disciplinary care team, interacting with a variety of stakeholders to deliver effective treatment with the patient at the centre.

Taking responsibility for all mental health act work you will be fundamental to their recovery.

The role will see you manage a busy and challenging caseload, where you will interact with high numbers of patients, some of whom will be experiencing significant mental health problems.

We need someone who can help us to grow and improve our services and our organisation interpreting and applying the latest research – delivering better services for everyone. In return for your commitments, we provide an impressive package including the chance to grow in the role though teaching opportunities, funded CPD and academic support.

You will be an experienced mental health professional with a detailed and current knowledge of NHS, local government and national strategies and policies. Registered with the GMC, you will be eligible to hold Approved Clinician status at appointment.

We expect you to demonstrate previous experience of managing a diverse caseload, working with multidisciplinary team to deliver a package of care that is evidence-based, recovery-focused, and effectively risk-managed.

Personally, you will be an excellent communicator, calmly and clearly explaining your decisions to service users, carers, staff and stakeholders. We expect you to understand the fundamental principles of patient-centred care, embedding it within teams and systems, and continually working to improve the quality of services we deliver. Underpinning your approach will be an ability to understand and apply the latest research and findings and be able to communicate these to colleagues and stakeholders.

Keen to inspire the next generation of professionals, you will be experienced at undergraduate teaching, lecturing and clinical supervision.
