JOB PURPOSE:

This is a new post for a Consultant Medical Microbiologist in the Department of Medical Microbiology in Healthcare NHS Trust. The successful candidate will hold the new Consultant contract with 10 Programmed Activities (PAs). The appointee will join the existing three Consultant Medical Microbiologists as a replacement for a retiring colleague, to share the provision of clinical microbiology and infection control service across the Trust as part of the development of a multi-disciplinary team approach to care within the speciality. Each Consultant Microbiologist takes on a lead role on a rotational basis: Trust Laboratory Lead Consultant for Microbiology, Antimicrobial Lead, Infection Prevention and Control Lead and Clinical Lead. Each Consultant Microbiologist will provide day to day infection prevention and control advice whilst on clinical duties on each site. The post of Director of Infection Prevention and Control (DIPC) is at present being held by a Consultant Microbiologist. The successful candidate will be a medically qualified graduate who has completed an appropriate programme of higher professional training and has wide general training and experience in clinical microbiology and infection control. It is expected that the appointee will hold the FRCPath or show evidence of equivalent training. Applicants to the post must hold full and specialist registration (with a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC) (or be eligible for registration within six months of interview).
