Bermuda’s Ministry of Health is looking for a dynamic and innovative collaborator with a passion for public health and social betterment to take up the role of Chief Medical Officer. The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) provides public health leadership for the Government and the country and is responsible for developing and implementing international best practices in public health; and for providing policy guidance on health issues to assure the sustainability and quality of the healthcare system.

The CMO is the focal point for health international relations and works collaboratively with a broad range of local and international health system stakeholders to achieve the strategic goals of the Ministry of Health. The CMO recommends health strategies, policies, standards, and legislation for Bermuda to assure preparedness and response in health-related emergencies and disasters.

In addition, the CMO is responsible for the regulation of medical professionals, pharmaceutical product control and monitoring, epidemiology and surveillance, and statutory functions on a number of boards and committees.  The CMO has charge of the overall management and administration of the Office of the Chief Medical Officer, including programmes, resources, staff management, and service delivery.

The post holder requires a medical degree (M.D.; M.B., B.S.; M.B., CH.B. or D.O.); and Master’s degree or equivalent in Public Health (M.P.H.) or a relevant field of study (e.g. Master’s in Public Health Administration (M.P.H.A.), etc.). In addition the post holder must possess or be eligible for registration with the Bermuda Medical Council. At least ten years’ relevant experience in community medicine and/or preventive medicine setting, with experience in managing public health programmes within a multi-disciplinary team is also required.
